Summary of Duties:

Responsible for the design and implementation of health services and activities to meet the needs of children aged prenatal to five years old. Position provides timely and accurate information and training to staff and enrolled families and assures service quality and compliance according to funding requirements and agency funding sources. Maintains strong parent and community communication and involvement. Develops policies and procedures related to the content area. Works in close collaboration with other Content Area Specialists and provides technical assistance and support to Early Childhood Services staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:    Other duties as related to the job may be assigned.

  • Develop and continuously improve content area ensuring integrated and comprehensive system of services for children;
  • Provide ongoing monitoring, tracking, analysis and follow-up of screening and assessments related to content area;
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures, schedules and timelines for content area in accordance with funding requirements;
  • Continuously communicate and collaborate with other Content Area Specialists, Leadership and other staff to ensure coordination of services;
  • Design and deliver training to staff, parents and community to include best practices in the health field;
  • Ensure coordination and accuracy of all communications related to content area with staff, parents and program consultants;
  • Ensure coordination and completion of Disaster Preparedness plans according to Head Start Performance Standards;
  • Coordinate appropriate specific projects;
  • Review and authorize medical and dental treatment funds disbursement for child and pregnant women health services;
  • Implement monitoring system to include follow up on corrective action plans to ensure safe environments for children and families and training as appropriate;
  • Respond to identified health needs within the program and provide expertise and support in specialty areas; develop and implement plans of action as necessary. Ensure availability of adequate health supplies and equipment. Ensure proper maintenance of program health equipment;
  • Ensure Health Services Advisory Committees are functioning according to Performance Standard requirements at both the grantee and delegate level;
  • Establish and maintain relationships and collaboration with the medical and dental communities and other community agencies and partners;
  • Initiate, negotiate, and finalize agreements with health departments and other community partners for health-related contractual services.
  • Attend meetings and trainings related to assigned areas of responsibility;
  • Maintain confidentiality and Code of Conduct at all times.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Education, Health Services or related field and three years experience working with physical and oral health requirements for prenatal to five year old age group as well as knowledge of community resources and early childhood development is required.



Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Employees in this position must possess reliable transportation and a valid Michigan driver license. Required to obtain CPR and First Aid Trainer certification within 12 months of hire and maintain certification while employed.

This position is responsible for the design and implementation of health services and activities to meet the needs of children aged prenatal to five years old.

Main office location will be determined at time of hire, dependent upon location of selected candidate and availability of space.

Working 40 hours per week, wage range of $18.75 - $31.26 per hour, including the following benefits: Profit Share, Medical/Rx, Dental, Life & Disability Insurance at no cost for employee. Paid lunch hours; holiday, vacation and sick days.
